'Gossip girl here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite.’
The introduction alone is already a sign of how much drama I’d gotten myself into, I thought as I sank deeper into the couch as I started another episode of the 2007 classic American teen drama television series, Gossip Girl.
Upper East Side’s elite aren’t all glamour and fame – the extravagant parties, the fancy dresses, and the private limousines. If any, drama and gossip are their best friends; so who better to talk about than the elite themselves?
There's Serena van der Woodsen, the ‘It Girl’; long golden hair fall right below her shoulders with that dazzling smile that wows everyone. Blair Waldorf - the queen bee; brown waves hit her back, her signature headband holding it in place as she struts in designer clothes. Nate Archibald, the golden boy; brown locks combed back, kind blue eyes - the perfect bachelor. Chuck Bass, the bad boy; tantalizing, smoldering eyes and irresistible charm as he mouths words no one else can say, “I’m Chuck Bass.” And then there’s Dan Humphrey, the outsider; crowned ‘lonely boy’ and your average looking guy, that one person no one knows.
As I progress through the current episode, I learn that Gossip Girl wouldn’t be Gossip Girl if she didn’t know everyone and everything in the Upper East Side. But, does GG do it all by herself all at the same time? Of course not. This is where the Upper East Siders come in; anyone and everyone can send in gossip tips, and then it’s all up to Gossip Girl to send her gossip blasts - a chain of events that will leave everyone restless.
Gossip Girl follows the lives of Blair, Nate, Chuck, Serena, and Dan because apparently, their lives are all tangled together in ways unexpected, some beyond unexpected. I mean, I’ve just had my third, maybe fourth, serving of drama today, and the plot twists again!
Well, what better way to end drama than with more drama? I thought, as I paused the show so I could get myself a glass of water. It’s crazy to think that I’ve kept up with all the drama in the show, but what’s crazier is how Gossip Girl could keep up with all of that. Then again, who is Gossip Girl?
“And who am I? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. You know you love me. XOXO, Gossip Girl.”
I turned the television off, and flopped down on my bed. What have I gotten myself into?
